Thought for the day
It is such a privilege that God has given us His Amazing Grace to enjoy in this life. However there have been waves of grace abuse throughout the history of Christianity. I’m sure that we’ve all sinned by taking His grace for granted.
Here are 6 ways that we as Christians can abuse God’s Grace:
1. By mischaracterizing God:
We fabricate a version of who He is our mind that’s not accurate. The character of Christ is the nature of God.
2. By misunderstanding our own nature:
We mustn’t think that we can grow so sanctified that we will lose our ability to sin. We will always be a child of God who is dependent on God’s Grace to live a life that is Holy and pleasing to God.
3. By practicing unforgiveness:
We display the nature of God when we practice forgiveness. We mustn’t abuse God’s Grace by holding a grudge and refusing to forgive what appears unforgivable.
4. By presumptuous sin:
Presumptuous sin is when we know it’s wrong but we do it anyway. As growing Christians we need to let God’s Grace steer us away from sin, thereby avoiding the need to confess and repent about the same thing repeatedly.
5. By practicing a minimal/nominal form of Christianity:
The truth is that too many people want to identify with Christ but do not want to follow Him. They are satisfied with just enough of His Grace to get them to Heaven, but not enough to change their lives and forsake their sinfulness.
6. By ignoring the Holy Spirit:
We need to allow the Holy Spirit to use the Word of God to change us from the inside out. Our thinking needs to be changed by the renewing of our mind.
The bottom line is that we misuse God’s grace when we live however we want to. Grace is not a license to do whatever we desire, but a teacher to live how we ought to.
