Thought for the day
Procrastination can be seen as a stumbling block for us as Christians for several reasons:
1. Disobedience to God’s Call:
As Christians we are called to live intentionally and steward our time well (Ephesians 5:15-16). Procrastination can lead to neglecting responsibilities and delaying tasks that are part of God’s purpose for our lives. In this way, it may reflect a lack of obedience to His guidance and commands.
2. Impedes Spiritual Growth:
The Bible encourages us to be diligent and work with excellence (Colossians 3:23). Procrastination may hinder our ability to grow spiritually and fulfill our God-given potential. By putting things off, we may miss opportunities for service, learning, and spiritual development.
3. Creates Anxiety and Stress:
Proverbs 12:24 says, “The hand of the diligent will rule, while the lazy will be put to forced labor.” Procrastination often leads to unnecessary stress, anxiety, and a sense of being overwhelmed. These emotions can distract from the peace and trust in God that we are called to live in.
4. Hinders Relationships:
Whether in our work, ministry, or personal life, procrastination can strain relationships with others. If we fail to follow through on commitments or responsibilities, it can erode trust and prevent us from being a reliable witness of God’s love and faithfulness.
5. Missed Opportunities for God’s Glory:
Procrastination may cause us to miss opportunities to serve God and others. By delaying actions or decisions, we may fail to make the most of the time and talents God has given us, potentially missing out on moments that could bring glory to Him.
In short, procrastination can act as a stumbling block for us as Christians because it prevents us from fulfilling our calling, negatively impacts our relationships, and interferes with the peace and productivity that come from living in obedience to God’s will. To overcome procrastination, we are encouraged to rely on God’s strength, seek His guidance, and approach tasks with purpose and discipline.
