Thought for the day
It’s such a serious problem if we as Christians live in a wishy-washy, indifferent, or lukewarm way:
1. Jesus Directly Warns Against It:
In Revelation 3:15-16, Jesus speaks to the church in Laodicea: “I know your works: you are neither cold nor hot. Would that you were either cold or hot! So, because you are lukewarm… I will spit you out of my mouth.” That’s strong language. Lukewarm faith disgusts Jesus—not because He doesn’t love the person, but because it misrepresents His transformative power.
2. It Diminishes the Power of the Gospel:
A half-hearted Christian life tells the world that Jesus might not be worth living fully for. If our faith doesn’t change us, why would anyone else believe it can change them?
3. It’s Spiritually Risky:
Lukewarmness can dull spiritual sensitivity. Over time, compromise becomes comfort. Passion fades. Conviction weakens. It’s a slow drift away from intimacy with God—and many don’t even realize it’s happening.
4. It’s Rooted in Self, Not Surrender:
A lukewarm faith often keeps Jesus at arm’s length. It wants enough of God to feel safe, but not enough to actually change. It’s still more about convenience than commitment.
5. It Misses the Joy of True Discipleship:
Jesus didn’t call us to half-follow Him. He said, “If anyone would come after me, let him deny himself, take up his cross, and follow me.” (Matthew 16:24) That kind of surrender is hard—but it’s where the real joy, peace, and power are found.
A lukewarm life is a wasted life. God is worthy of our whole hearts and not just our Sunday mornings or surface-level devotion.
