Thought for the day
One of the hardest things for us accomplish in life is consistency. An important question we need to ask ourselves is,’ why is it so difficult to achieve?’. This is probably due to the self-discipline it requires and very often we find ourselves falling into the trap of being “consistently inconsistent”, which can create an ongoing frustration.
Whether we’re referring to marriage and family, parenting and grandparenting , our dating life, our job or career, our educational pursuits, or our recreational interests, it’s difficult to achieve real consistency in our own strength. This struggle with consistency is especially true in our Christianity.
The Apostle Paul challenged the church in Corinth as follows in 1 Corinthians 15:58 (ESV): “Therefore, my beloved brothers, be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing that in the Lord your labour is not in vain.”
They were very similar to us in that they weren’t nearly as consistent in their Christian walk as they should have been. They needed to be reminded of their priorities.
We too often lack steadfastness, are all-too-easily moved, fail to abound (or excel) in God’s work, and lose sight of the promise of heaven for our spiritual labours. It is like we have an “on again, off again” Christianity driven by our emotions and feelings.
It is important for us to gain an understanding of the truth that we can’t depend on someone else to walk our Christian walk for us. It is our responsibility alone and we will be judged based on our own responsiveness to Christ’s call on our lives.
We need , by His Amazing Grace, to hold true to our spiritual values and commitments. We need to be focused on not getting stuck and hung-up in the past (including successes, failures, hurts, resentments and struggles). We need to rather rather focus on our glorious spiritual future in Christ (see Phil. 3:12-14).
