Thought of the day.

In order to be wise we need to invite wise people into our life. We don’t need a lot of friends or to be popular. We need a few good friends who build us up, don’t tear us down and who are wise, not foolish.
The truth is that if we hang around with foolish people, we will become foolish. However if we spend time with wise people, we’ll grow wiser. It’s like the old saying: “If you want to soar with the eagles, you can’t run with the turkeys.”
People thrive in community. We can’t grow to spiritual maturity by ourself. We could join a monastery and move to the top of a mountain and spend our life in silence and reading books. We would as a result of this grow in knowledge, but we wouldn’t grow in wisdom.
The reason for that is that wisdom is all about love. Wisdom shows up primarily in relationships and that’s why a lot of people have academic degrees, but their marriages are falling apart. They have become highly educated, but they’re not wise.Scripture says in Proverbs 13:20, “Spend time with the wise and you will become wise, but the friends of fools will suffer” (NCV).
In life it’s always easier for somebody to pull us down than to pull us up. People who pull us down are not our true friends. True friends pull us up and encourage us in our pursuit of Godly wisdom by sharing the wisdom they have received.
Today let us reflect on whether we have anybody in our life who is sharing their wisdom with us on a regular basis. We need that kind of encouragement in our life if we want to be a wise person.
