Thought for the day

For the love of money is the root of all kinds of evil. And some people, craving money, have wandered from the true faith and pierced themselves with many sorrows.
1 Timothy 6:10 NLT

One of the most fiercely debated topics in the body of Christ is money. Nothing exposes the true heart of a person more than money does. The reality is that money in itself is not evil. It just depends on whose hands it finds itself in. A 100 million rand in the hands of a Kingdom minded person will be a blessing but that same money in the hands of a gangster will lead to death and destruction.
However we as believers have to really develop the right attitude towards money. We need to understand that God is our source and not money. Money is merely a means towards an end which is to further the Kingdom of God on earth and bring Heaven to earth.
When we have the right attitude towards money we will understand that we are merely stewards and not owners. We need to continually evaluate our attitude towards money because the deception is very subtle and before we know it we have drifted into a situation where money controls us and not the other way around.
We start chasing money, and people then become a means towards an end. This leads to the need to manipulate and control people into giving. This leads to fear based giving as opposed to giving from the heart in love and healthy obedience to God.
“No one can serve two masters. For you will hate one and love the other; you will be devoted to one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and be enslaved to money.
Matthew 6:24 NLT
A true test of our hearts is that when God blesses us abundantly will we be able to give it all away if God asks us to. This was the stumbling block for the rich young ruler when he asked Jesus what he should do to inherit the Kingdom. The truth is that God doesn’t necessarily want us to give everything away but He does want our whole heart. It is an issue of the heart.
My prayer today is that as followers of Christ, that we will become distribution centres for the Kingdom and not swamps.
