Thought for the day

As Christians, the idea of studying to show ourselves approved is rooted in the Bible, specifically in 2 Timothy 2:15, which says:
“Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a worker who has no need to be ashamed, rightly handling the word of truth.” (ESV)
Here are a few reasons why it’s important for us as Christians to study and show ourselves approved:
1. To Grow in Knowledge of God’s Word
Studying the Bible helps us deepen our understanding of God’s will for our lives. The more we know God’s Word, the better we can follow His commands, live according to His principles, and make wise decisions
2. To Be Effective in Ministry
Whether it’s in personal relationships, sharing the Gospel, or serving others, a solid understanding of the Bible equips us to be more effective in our ministry. As Christians, we are called to be ambassadors for Christ (2 Corinthians 5:20), and knowing Scripture enables us to speak with truth, clarity, and wisdom.
3. To Avoid False Teachings
Studying the Bible helps protect us from the dangers of false doctrines. The world is filled with conflicting ideas, and without a firm foundation in Scripture, we can be easily misled. 2 Peter 3:17 encourages believers to be on guard, and studying God’s Word helps us stay grounded in truth.
4. To Live with Integrity
When we study God’s Word, we gain the wisdom necessary to live in alignment with God’s will. It challenges us to live holy and righteous lives, avoiding sin and growing in our sanctification. It’s not just about knowing the truth, but living it out.
5. To Honour God
Studying to show ourselves approved is ultimately an act of honouring God. As we study His Word, we grow in awe and reverence for His character and plan. It is a way of showing our love and devotion to Him by seeking to know Him better and live according to His truth.
6. To Prepare for Challenges
Life brings many challenges, and understanding God’s Word provides the strength and wisdom we need to navigate them. Whether facing personal struggles, doubts, or external opposition, the Bible offers guidance, encouragement, and the hope that we need to endure.
7. To Be a Witness to Others
When we study and live according to God’s Word, we become a living testimony to those around us. Our lives can reflect the love, wisdom, and truth of Christ, and as we engage with others, we have the opportunity to point them to Jesus and His Word.

In short, studying to show ourselves approved is about deepening our relationship with God, being faithful stewards of His Word, and equipping ourselves for a life that reflects His truth and love in everything we do.
