Thought for the day

In the natural when we have a defective heart condition it can be debilitating and in certain instances life threatening. In the spiritual context the heart condition is of vital importance as it determines whether we will experience the God kind of life that He so desires for us to live.
When we look at the rich young ruler who approached Jesus to understand what he must do in order to inherit the Kingdom of God. Jesus told him a whole lot of stuff that he should be doing. His response was that he is already doing all of that. He enquired of Jesus to tell him what else he should be doing. Jesus responded that he should sell all his assets, give all the money to the poor and to follow Jesus wherever He went. He left very sad in that he could not bring himself to follow this instruction.
The truth this was not about him selling his assets but about Jesus revealing to him the condition of his heart. I don’t believe Jesus wanted him to sell anything but to rather deal with the condition of his heart. He possibly could have become Jesus’s treasurer. It was about his total surrender to Jesus and whether he was prepared to lay it all down to follow Jesus.
In our own lives this is a test that we all face. Are we prepared to lay it all down and surrender every area of our lives, including our assets and finances, to Jesus?
What is the condition of our heart?
