Thought for the day

Flattery is dangerous for us as Christians because it distorts truth, feeds pride, and can lead us or others into sin. It seeks personal gain rather than godly love.
“A flattering mouth works ruin.” — Proverbs 26:28 (NKJV)

Key dangers of flattery:
1. It deceives and manipulates
Flattery is often used to gain favor rather than speak truth in love.
2. It leads to pride
It can inflate our ego and draw us away from humility.
3. It compromises integrity
We are called to speak truth, not use smooth words for selfish purposes.
4. It opens the door to sin
Both the giver and receiver can be harmed spiritually.

Flattery may sound pleasant, but it quietly pulls us away from truth, humility, and sincere love. As Christians, we are called to speak with honesty and grace, aiming to build others up rather than seek personal advantage. By guarding our words and our hearts, we honour God and protect ourselves from the ruin that Scripture warns against.
