Thought for the day

A false prophet is someone who claims to speak for God but leads people away from the truth revealed in Scripture. The Bible warns us as believers to discern carefully, because false prophets can appear convincing while promoting deception.
Key Points:
1. Their predictions fail:
According to Deuteronomy 18:22, if a prophecy does not come to pass, the Lord did not speak through that person.
2. They contradict Scripture:
False prophets teach doctrines that oppose the Bible or draw people toward idolatry, regardless of miraculous signs (Deut. 13:1–3).
3. They seek personal gain:
Many false teachers exploit believers for money, influence, or control (2 Peter 2:1–3).
4. Their character shows corruption:
Jesus said you will know them by their fruits—hypocrisy, immorality, and deception reveal a false prophet (Matthew 7:15–20).
5. They use fear or flattering lies:
They tell people what their “itching ears” want to hear (2 Timothy 4:3), or they manipulate through fear instead of pointing people toward God.
6. They reject correction and accountability:
True servants of God submit to correction; false prophets resist it, claiming special authority or secret revelation.

In summary, a false prophet is recognized by the failure of their predictions, the unbiblical nature of their teaching, and the fruit of their life and motives. Scripture urges believers to test every spirit and hold firmly to God’s Word as the standard of truth.
