Thought for the day

#Unforgiveness

Unforgiveness comes to affect our judgment and perspective because we view the world and ourselves through the lens of hurt. We begin to perceive every wrong we encounter as a personal offense and attack against us. We start to develop a sensitivity towards rejection and we expect not only the offender, but also others, to dismiss us. The consequence is that pain becomes the identity of the unforgiving person.

It is important to understand that unforgiveness affects our character and integrity as grudges do not bring out the best in us. It might start with us complaining and gossiping to our friends about the person who offended us. We may even start to exaggerate the details of the story, or even tell lies to gain sympathy and supporters. This may even result in us mocking, accusing, or to be quick to start a fight. Most often than not we tend to give the offender the silent treatment, refusing to talk to them or holding them emotionally hostage with a cold attitude and harsh words. We might notice that we continually have thoughts of revenge, lack compassion, and enjoy the offender’s misfortunes.
When we focus on how much we have been forgiven through Christ we are then able to forgive and let God heal our hearts
Unforgiveness is like us drinking poison and expecting the other person to die.
