Here are 5 brief points on why the power of life and death is in the tongue:

1. Our words can build up or destroy
Words carry the power to heal or harm.Proverbs 18:21 – “The tongue has the power of life and death, and those who love it will eat its fruit.”

2. Words reveal the heart’s condition
What we say reflects what is within us.Luke 6:45 – “Out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks.”

3. Words can influence others for good or evil
Our speech impacts those around us, shaping lives.James 3:5–6 – “The tongue is a small part of the body, but it makes great boasts… It corrupts the whole body.”

4. God holds us accountable for our words
Every careless word has weight before God.Matthew 12:36 – “But I tell you that everyone will have to give account on the day of judgment for every empty word they have spoken.”

5. Wise and gracious speech brings blessing
Speaking with wisdom and kindness brings life and favor.Proverbs 15:4 – “The soothing tongue is a tree of life, but a perverse tongue crushes the spirit.”
