Thought for the day
Here are some benefits of exercising patience:
1. Better prayer
Read Psalm 40:1
We truly need to give God time to work out the answers to our prayers according to his timing and according to the best possible answer, which may not be the very thing for which we are praying. We can rest in the Lord and quit worrying Psalm 37:7. The truth is that worry is the advanced interest we pay on trouble that rarely comes. If we find that we are not getting the peace that the Lord promises in Philippians 4:6-7, perhaps we are still worrying too much. That passage starts out, “Be careful for nothing.” And one of the best ways to do that is to be patient.
2.Better fruitfulness
Read Luke 8:15
It takes time for us to develop into a fruitful Christian bearing the fruit of the Spirit. Likewise, it takes time for souls to whom we are witnessing to get saved. Too often we get the idea that soul winning means we are supposed to come back with souls won to the Lord every time we go out. That’s not so. We need to be content to sow and to give the Holy Spirit time to bring forth fruit from the Words of God that we sow. If they want Jesus and eternal life, they’ll eventually get saved.
3.Better fellowship
Read Romans 15:5
It takes time for good Christian friendships to develop. It takes time for believers to become like minded concerning things of the faith. We don’t all start out believing the same thing. But that’s not a reason to cross swords. Some of the best friends we will ever have in the Lord will be people with whom we have survived a conflict. It takes time for us to grow, so be patient.
4.Better endurance
Read Hebrews 12:1
Patience keeps us from quitting our race when things get tough. It helps to remember that the Christian life is not a sprint but it’s a marathon. And there is a great mental battle in this race we run that can be overcome if we run with patience. We have to realize that if we are not at the finish line yet, then we are where we are supposed to be along the course of the race and we are doing just fine. It is important to remember, every race has a finish line and not to drop out of the race before we get there.
5.Better hope
Read Romans 15:4
Patience helps us to keep our confidence in the promises of God. We are able to see how God brought to pass all that He promised in the Old Testament. And that He will bring to pass all that He has promised to us in our lives today.
It is important for us to remain patient. The Lord will work out everything in His time. We need to keep praying because He’s always listening. It is vital that we keep sowing because the Word always yields fruit. We must keep our fellowship with fellow believers, knowing that the Lord strengthens us through the tough stuff. We need to keep running because there is a finish line. We need to be reminded that we are not fighting for victory but from victory.
