Thought for the day
[I will be dealing with this topic today and tomorrow.]
As a Christian, walking in deception can be subtle, but there are several signs that may indicate we are straying from the truth of the Word of God or being misled.
Here are some common indicators:
1. Lack of Alignment with Scripture
Sign:We may begin to rationalize or compromise on certain teachings of the Bible.
What to do: Regularly compare our beliefs and actions with the Word of God. If our thoughts, behaviors, or choices contradict Scripture, it’s a sign we might be walking in deception.
2. Distorted Understanding of God’s Will
Sign: We may feel confused about God’s guidance or find that we are seeking answers in places other than prayer, the Bible, or trusted spiritual mentors.
What to do: Seek God’s will through consistent prayer, reading the Bible, and seeking counsel from wise, spiritually mature individuals.
3. Justifying Sin
Sign: We find ourselves making excuses for sin or accepting behavior that clearly goes against biblical teaching.
What to do: We need to repent and ask the Holy Spirit for conviction and strength to resist temptation. We need to confess any sin and turn away from it.
4. Unhealthy Relationships
Sign: We may be surrounded by people who encourage us to compromise our faith or who lead us away from God’s truth.
What to do: Evaluate our relationships and ensure they are aligned with our Christian values. We need to maintain accountability with fellow believers who encourage our faith.
5. Lack of Fruit of the Spirit
Sign: If we notice a lack of love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, or self-control in our life, it may be a sign we’re not walking closely with the Spirit.
What to do: Regularly ask the Holy Spirit to help produce His fruit in our life and to be open to God’s transformative work.
