Thought for the day

Our response to wrongdoing should reflect the heart of Christ. Scripture repeatedly teaches that we are called to rise above retaliation and choose a better way—the way of love, mercy, and trust in God.

Here are some reasons why we should repay evil with good:

1. It reflects Christ’s character.
Jesus is our example of responding to evil with grace.
“When he was reviled, he did not revile in return… but continued entrusting himself to him who judges justly.” — 1 Peter 2:23

2. It breaks the cycle of sin.
Responding with good interrupts the destructive pattern that evil tries to create.
“Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.” — Romans 12:21

3. It shows trust in God’s justice.
We honour God by allowing Him—not ourselves—to handle judgment.
“Do not take revenge… but leave room for God’s wrath.” — Romans 12:19

4. It demonstrates the power of the Gospel.
Loving others even when they harm us reveals God’s transforming work in our hearts.
“Love your enemies, do good to those who hate you.” — Luke 6:27

Choosing not to repay evil with evil isn’t weakness—it’s obedience. It shows Christ to the world, breaks the cycle of hurt, trusts God’s justice, and reveals the transforming power of His love. This is the way of the cross and the calling of every believer.
