Thought for the day
Modern-day witchcraft in the church refers to any practice or behaviour that manipulates, controls, or rebels against God’s authority which is often disguised as spiritual or religious activity. It’s not always obvious, but here are some key signs :
1. Manipulation and control in the name of God
Using spiritual authority to dominate others.
Galatians 5:20 – “…idolatry and witchcraft; hatred, discord… those who live like this will not inherit the kingdom of God.”
2. Rebellion against God’s order and truth
Rebellion is equated with witchcraft in Scripture.
1 Samuel 15:23 – “For rebellion is like the sin of witchcraft…”
3. Mixing worldly or occult practices with Christianity
Bringing in unbiblical rituals, symbols, or “spiritual” methods.
2 Corinthians 6:14 – “What fellowship can light have with darkness?”
4. False prophecy and spiritual manipulation
Claiming “God said” to influence others without true revelation.Jeremiah 14:14 – “The prophets are prophesying lies in my name… I have not sent them.”
5. Seeking power, signs, or experiences over obedience to GodPrioritizing the supernatural over submission to Christ.
Matthew 7:22–23 – “Many will say to me on that day, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name?’… Then I will tell them plainly, ‘I never knew you.’”
Modern witchcraft in the church is any counterfeit spirituality that replaces God’s truth with control, deception, or self-centred power, even if it looks religious on the outside.
